Future Youth Indentity

Has the representation of youth changed from past to present?
Very little changed from the past to the present in terms of classification of the youth. It's only the way in which it is depicted that has changed, with the coats of the Mods becoming hoodies of the chavs. The rise of social media however has allowed the youth to have some free expression, where previously only the media and authority had the ability too. However, this rise of youth social media has brought some skepticism, especially as the events such as the BBM coordination throughout the riots show how it can be used for negative effects. The demonisation of youth is still very much in existence within British media, however challenges are starting to arise, such as Plan B's 'Ill Manors', that aim to change this for the better.

The norm, both in the past and currently, is for older creators to construct representation of youth. So is this the future - younger writers/directors getting involved to create more truthful, relevant representations?
One of the main reasons for the demonisation of the youth in the media is the fact that the editors and writers of the media are older, leading to many people out-of-touch with the youth of today and reflecting their own ideology in the stories the public absorb. A way of fixing this would be the rise in younger editors, such as the Director of 'Sket', who can give a more understood representation of the youth in the media.

Do you really think representations of youth will change?

Will truthful, relevant representations be found on the internet where UK youth are already in control (to a certain degree) of how they are represented through Youtube and Facebook?
